Throwback Thursday: Janet Jackson Control

The Control album dropped 35 years ago in February 1986 and I was 13. I don’t know about you, but that album changed my life. The record producers who made her famous, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are releasing their own album, dropping on Friday. What are your favorite songs from the album: Nasty Boy, Pleasure Principle, Let’s Wait A While? I loved them all! And who else thought they were Janet Jackson dancing in the mirror? 🖐️LOL #OldSchool #40AndOver #the80s #the40andoverproject #GirlPower

#ThrowbackThursday Old School Summer Jams

It’s #Cookout season. You know what that means right? Alot of #OldSchool dance music to set the mood. Before I Let Go, by Frankie Beverly, has got to be one of everyone’s all time favorites for family reunions and weddings. Keep this one on blast and you will be sure to have a successful Que (BBQ that is and guarantee that somebody’s auntie will break out into a line dance after a mean game of Bid Whist on the card table! And we can’t leave out the Hip Hop classic, Summertime, by Will Smith because the title says it all! This should be in heavy rotation in your “CD player”, lol, or on your playlist, either way, it’s the jam! Enjoy!

Watch “Wham! – Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Official Video)” on YouTube #ThrowbackThursday #OldSchool #the80s

What do you do when Wham, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, pops in your head randomly and you’re just a dancing and singing? You post it up for #ThrowbackThursday of course! Song premiered 36 years ago (yikes). This was the first time we saw George Michael with his beautiful feathered hair. Gorgeous! He was fierce! #40AndOver #the80s #the40andoverproject #theclique

Watch “Fight The Power (Full Version) – Public Enemy” on YouTube

ThrowbackThursday In July 1989, thirty-one years ago (I was a sophomore in high school), the movie Do The Right Thing hit theaters, one of the most prolific and symbolic #SpikeLee films. One of the the most powerful songs from the #soundtrack was #FightThePower by #PublicEnemy, an anthem for a generation dealing with the same issues the youth of today are dealing with (i.e., Bed-Stuy in New York and two years before #RodneyKing in LA in 1992; I entered college in 1991). So you see, history, in the black community, continues to repeat itself, and racism doesn’t end, but we still have to fight so they hear us and make change! And make sure you watch the whole video as it’s a reflection of the passing of the batton from #the60s to #the90s generation and today, we’ve passed it on to #the2000s generation to keep up the work and to raise their voices for #socialjustice #40AndOver #GenerationX #the40andoverproject #theclique #QuarantineChronicles #pandemic

Happy Birthday Stevie Wonder

May 13, 2020 marked the 70th Birthday of the musical icon, #StevieWonder. As a person who grew up in the 70s and 80s, his music was a part of the soundtrack of my life. Some of my favorite songs are Sir Duke, Master Blaster Jammin, Living For the City, All I Do, Ribbon In The Sky, just to name a few. What are your favorites? #HappyBirthdayStevieWonder #OldSchool #the40andoverproject #theclique
