poetry: the common sense of turning 40

When I turned 30, I started writing a poem for each year of my new decade. In 2013, I turned 40. That was seven years ago. Here’s a flashback to 40.

common sense

somehow the older we get

the less like a rebellious

thirteen year old we are

and the more we behave like the mothers

we swore we would never become
